We Were Here Tomorrow Ending Explained: Close or Stabilize the Rift (both endings, any secret ending?)
Updated 24 Oct 2026 · Game version: 1.1.1 · By the Indie Walkthrough crew
The answer in one line
There are two endings, picked at the very end on the Theta Splice controls: CLOSE RIFT (achievement Tomorrow May Never Come, "Closed Rift Zero") or STABILIZE RIFT (achievement Dawn of Tomorrow, "Secured Rift Zero"). You get about ten minutes on a countdown to decide.
We watched the Close Rift ending in full. The Stabilize Rift outcome and whether both players must pick the same side are not confirmed yet.
How many endings there are
Two, as far as the evidence goes. Both have a Steam achievement, and the descriptions match the two labels on the final controls:
| Choice on the controls | Achievement | Steam description | Unlock rate (Oct 23, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| CLOSE RIFT | Tomorrow May Never Come | Closed Rift Zero | 2.4% |
| STABILIZE RIFT | Dawn of Tomorrow | Secured Rift Zero | 1.3% |
| (reached before the choice) | Why So Molecular? | Restored power to the Theta Splice device | 2.9% |
The two ending achievements together (3.7%) come to more than the step right before them (2.9%), which fits a fork where some pairs go back and take the other side. That is our reading of the numbers, not something the game states.
Where the choice happens
After you restore power to the Theta Splice device, you reach its control platform at the rift. Each player has a console with a row of lit buttons, a selector labelled CLOSE RIFT on one side and STABILIZE RIFT on the other, and a red countdown that starts at about ten minutes.

What each side argues
The notes you read on the way set up the choice:
- Close the rift. Dr. Emily Doyle’s journal, found just before the platform, says the Theta Splice is an atrocity, that the creatures on the other side are intelligent and have a society, and that the splice can be calibrated to close the rift. “If you find this journal, I beg of you, close the rift!”
- Stabilize the rift. A Norček memo from Dr. Bowe, Director of Research & Development, says an open rift only lets a trickle of theta particles through, while a stabilized rift would allow “astronomical rates of transfer”, enough to restart the world’s infrastructure, and that “the cost of this solution is worth the benefits”.

The Close Rift ending (seen)
In both videos of the same session the pair set the consoles to Close Rift. The screens switch to CLOSING RIFT, the rift collapses, and a short scene follows: a scientist in a red-lit control room with a RESTART GENERATOR warning, then the two explorers standing in the alien landscape. Then the credits roll, followed by the main menu.

The Stabilize Rift ending (not confirmed)
We have not watched it yet. All we can say is that the Dawn of Tomorrow achievement (“Secured Rift Zero”) is the one that goes with it. We will add what happens once we have a recording.
Do both players have to choose the same?
Not confirmed. Each player has their own console with the selector, and in the session we watched both chose Close Rift. We didn’t see what happens if the two consoles disagree.
Is there a secret ending?
There is no evidence of one. The Steam guide called “How to get Secret Ending (All Secrets 100%)” is a joke entry with no ending information, and the achievement list has no third ending achievement. The collectibles (12 jigsaw pieces, plushies for Class 1 Hoarder) don’t unlock an ending as far as anyone has reported.
Can you get both endings in one playthrough?
Not confirmed. The unlock rates suggest some players have both, but we haven’t seen whether the game lets you retry the final choice from a checkpoint or whether you have to replay.
