We Were Here Tomorrow Chemical Resin Puzzle Solution (canister / nozzle recipe)

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Game version: Launch build (October 2026) ·

The answer in one line

Fill the cup with styrene, then acrylonitrile, then butadiene, then styrene again, and press the button. Red sets the dial (in our session: 4, 3, 1, 4), yellow slides the cup under the nozzle with the matching label each time.

Slyreen and Hutadyne on the dial are decoys. Full steps below.

Where the puzzle is

Research & Development, right after the Circuit Board puzzle. The shrunk explorer ends up inside a small blue lab chamber.

Yellow explorer (shrunk, inside the chamber): three nozzles overhead, three pads on the floor and a cup on a block you can slide between the pads. A strip in front reads, left to right, ACRYLONITRILE, BUTADIENE, STYRENE. Yellow works the cup.

Red explorer (full size, outside the chamber): a round dial you turn to a number and a button, with a sheet next to the dial. Red picks the chemical.

What you need

  • No items. The cup is already in the chamber.
  • The recipe is on a page titled "Experimental resin notes" in the lab.

Step by step

  1. Red (outside): read the dial sheet

The sheet next to the dial numbers five chemicals: 1. Butadiene, 2. Slyreen, 3. Acrylonitrile, 4. Styrene, 5. Hutadyne. Only three of these are real nozzles in the chamber; Slyreen and Hutadyne are look-alike names you never need.

  2. Read the resin notes

The "Experimental resin notes" page says one part acrylonitrile followed by an equal part butadiene works, but the mix breaks down unless styrene is added before and after. So the order is styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene. We could not see in the videos which side of the glass this page is on, so both of you look for it.

  3. Yellow (inside): put the cup under the styrene nozzle

Slide the cup block onto the pad under the nozzle labelled STYRENE and say "Cup is under styrene." Line it up carefully; the cup has to sit right under the nozzle.

Inside the chamber: orange labels ACRYLONITRILE, BUTADIENE, STYRENE above the floor pads, with the red explorer visible through the window

  4. Red: dial the matching number

Turn the dial to styrene (4 on our sheet) so it squirts into the cup. Say "Styrene in, next acrylonitrile."

  5. Repeat for acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene

Yellow moves the cup to the ACRYLONITRILE nozzle and red dials acrylonitrile (3). Then BUTADIENE (1). Then back to STYRENE (4). Tell each other before every squirt so the cup is in place first.

  6. Red: press the button

With all four parts in, red presses the button and the machine drinks the mix. A happy sound plays and the door opens.

If it doesn’t work

We heard a quiet sound and nothing opened.
That is the fail sound, and it is easy to miss. The usual mistake is skipping the first styrene (acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene fails). The cup empties after a fail, so start again from styrene.
The squirt missed the cup.
The cup block has to sit centred on the pad under the right nozzle. Yellow can't see well from that size, so red can look through the window and say when it lines up.
Are the dial numbers always the same?
The three nozzle labels were the same, in the same left-to-right order, in two separate playthroughs. We only saw the numbered dial sheet and the recipe page in one session, so read the numbers off your own sheet.
Do the invoice sheets in the lab matter?
No. The office invoice lying around the lab is flavour text and has nothing to do with the dial.
