We Were Here Tomorrow Circuit Board Puzzle Solution (components require matching sockets)

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Game version: Launch build (October 2026) ·

The answer in one line

Each socket has screws in two colours. Turn the colours into shapes with the note (green square, grey pentagon, red triangle, purple star, blue Y, orange plus) and place the card whose three shapes include both: triangle+Y = two rings, star+pentagon = dome, square+pentagon = bicycle, square+plus = tent, pentagon+plus = stick figure with rake, Y+star = boxy 3.

Match by colour pair, not by board position. The way in (shrink machine) and the steps are below.

Where the puzzle is

Research & Development, through the double pulley after the Common Room. A yellow key card lies near the entrance; the green one comes much later.

Red explorer (stays full size): a desk with a green monitor showing six line drawings, each with three shapes under it, and a taped note "Components require matching sockets" with six coloured screw heads. Red sees the clue.

Yellow explorer (shrunk): walks on the circuit board itself, sees the sockets with their coloured screws and carries the six picture cards. Yellow places the cards.

What you need

  • Nothing to carry in. The six cards are on the board.
  • One of you has to be shrunk first (see the first step). In both playthroughs we checked, the yellow explorer was shrunk and red ran the machine.

Step by step

  1. Shrink one explorer on Dr. Dahne's machine

In R&D, one player steps into the cabinet of the Matter Reduction / Enlargement Platform and the other pulls the two-handle bar on the console in front of the red tube. The shrunk player lands in a tiny chamber; the full-size player then opens it so they can walk out onto the board. If the tiny player gets stuck or turns back to full size, just run the machine again.

  2. Red (desk): read the note and the six drawings

The note maps screw colour to shape: green = square, grey = pentagon, red = triangle, purple = star, blue = Y, orange = plus. The monitor lists six drawings with three shapes each: two linked rings (triangle, Y, star), stick figure with a rake (triangle, pentagon, plus), dome with arms (triangle, pentagon, star), bicycle (square, pentagon, plus), boxy 3 (square, Y, star), tent with a hook (square, Y, plus). Red never sees colours on the monitor, only shapes.

  3. Yellow (on the board): call out each socket's two screw colours

Walk to a socket and say both colours, for example: "This socket has red screws and blue screws." The screws are also embossed with their shape, so you can say "triangle and Y" instead. Then describe the cards you are holding by their picture.

  4. Red: name the only card that has both shapes

Find the drawing whose three shapes include both of the socket's shapes and say it back: "Red and blue is triangle and Y, that is the two rings card." Start with sockets that only one card fits: triangle+Y (two rings), star+pentagon (dome), square+pentagon (bicycle).

  5. Yellow: place the card, then finish by elimination

Pick up the card and place it on the socket. With the bicycle used, square+plus can only be the tent and pentagon+plus can only be the stick figure. With the rings used, Y+star is the boxy 3.

  6. Check the board

Sockets that are right light up blue. When all six are correct, the way off the board opens and you move on to the resin lab.

If it doesn’t work

Two cards fit the same socket.
That happens for Y+star (two rings and boxy 3) and for pentagon+plus or square+plus (bicycle fits too). Place the sockets with a single match first; the rest follow by elimination.
Each drawing has three shapes but a socket only has two colours. Is there a rule to drop one?
No. The card just needs to contain both of the socket's shapes. The third shape doesn't matter.
Is the answer always the same?
Probably. The two-rings card went on the red triangle and blue Y socket in two separate playthroughs, and the tent drawing was the same in both. We only saw the full monitor in one session, so if a card doesn't fit, use the method rather than the list.
The plus screw looks yellow, not white.
It is orange. The note pairs orange with the plus.
