Goal: cultivate a Battery Bulb (achievement All Grown Up). One explorer works in the modern Xenobotany lab, the other in an old greenhouse, and items pass between them through glowing time bubbles. [Step-by-step order still being checked.]

Where the puzzle is

Temporal Research Centre, the wing signposted XENOBOTANY on the TRC map.

Two time periods: a modern white lab with plant drawings on whiteboards, and an older glass-roofed greenhouse with brick floors. Glowing blue bubbles connect them.

Step by step

  1. Find Murray's seeds

    Voice lines and notes in the TRC describe a researcher "obsessed with extracting energy from his 'otherworldly' plants" who hid his "special" seeds around his office (later notes talk about "Murray's plants", so probably Dr. Murray). [Where exactly the seed is and who picks it up.]

  2. Plant and grow it across time

    A pot in the old greenhouse can be reached through a time bubble, and a sprout in it shows a PICK UP prompt. [How the two periods are used to grow the plant, in order.]

  3. Collect the Battery Bulb

    A research note in the wing says the plant's energy storage is beyond what they could measure, and asks to safeguard the seed. [What the bulb powers next.]

If it doesn’t work

Is this the rune puzzle with the plant pods?
No. The rune puzzle (plant pods with cross- and triangle-shaped rune slots, watched by an eye) comes much later, after you go through the rift. This page is the Xenobotany greenhouse in the Temporal Research Centre.
